Morgan Jones and Partners Advisor Honored With Western Carolina University Doctorate Last Month

Over 1,300 Western Carolina University students gathered on May 10’th, 2014, for a springtime graduation ceremony. Receiving his honorary doctorate at the event was Flat Rock, N.C. native and commencement attendee Mr. David A Woodcock Jr, a Philadelphian at heart and Carolinian in Spirit. Woodcock was honored in part due to his commendable entrepreneurial career throughout the previous sixty years, as well as his involvement as an “of council” advisor for MORGAN JONES and Partners, LLC.

After serving in the United States Air Force as a Russian Linguist in Alaska, as well as playing professional baseball, Woodcock initiated his love of business as an executive recruiter in 1950’s New York City. During this time he worked as an advisor for Pete Roselle of the National Football League in the creation of NFL Properties and went on to partner with noted television personality Art Linkletter, Entrepreneur Wilson Harrell and eventually MORGAN JONES co-founding partner B. Joseph Vincent. Throughout his career, Woodcock improved the trajectory of such companies as Formula 409 and Harrell International, while creating yearly firm sales of upwards of $500 million as chief executive officer and created innovative entities such as the Council of Growing Companies for INC. Magazine.

As the ceremony commenced, WCU Chancellor David O. Belcher noted: “You have spent six decades developing companies, motivating investors, creating jobs and adding value to national, state and regional economies as an entrepreneur extraordinaire.”

Woodcock currently lives as a full-time resident in North Carolina, and continues to ignite fond memories within Western Carolina University students he last served as Chairman of WCU School of Business as well as MORGAN JONES and Partners. “Dad loves the students here at WCU,” said his daughter Susan Guinan, who recognized the honorary doctorate on his behalf, “He is so proud of your efforts, and excited for all of your futures.”
